I grew up around building firms, as my dad worked for several in his time, and I always dreamed that one day, I’d have my own company. After serving my apprenticeship in Australia, the Philippines, the Canary Islands, Germany and France, I returned to the UK in 1999 and worked for other building and construction firms to develop my skills and knowledge. I now hold City & Guilds carpentry and bricklayer qualifications, and a current SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate, but the most useful part of my 30 years’ experience was working on-site day-in, day out, and getting to appreciate exactly what clients want from a builder. Since 1999, I’ve been running AMBS (Andrew Mills Building Services), and now the business has expanded to cover four ‘gangs’ – teams of bricklayers, joiners, electricians, plumbers, fitters, roofers, plasterers – all of whom are people I know and trust.
“Thank you, Andrew. Our loft conversion looks great, and it really has transformed our home. If you need anyone to recommend you, you can tell people to call us any time!”
Rohit J, St Albans
My primary role in the business is as Project Manager, ensuring that the project stays on time and to budget, and solving any potential issues even before my clients are aware of them. Keeping you in touch with our progress, coordinating my teams and maintaining an exceptional level of quality control are vital components of my job, and I put my reputation on the line with every job. The buck stops with me, so if you ever have cause for concern, I’ll deal with it personally and promptly. We believe that traditional values such as punctuality, good manners and tidiness go a long way to ensuring that you have a positive experience.
We’re based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, and focus our work in St Albans, as well as the surrounding areas of Harpenden, Radlett, Wheathampstead, Hemel Hempstead, Brookmans Park and Potters Bar. However, we’re happy to venture up as far as Luton, Dunstable and even Milton Keynes! We’re comfortable hopping over to Berkhamsted or Aylesbury in the west and even over to Hatfield or Hertford in the east. In fact if you’re in or near Hertfordshire, we’d be happy to help you with your building and construction work.
I hold City & Guilds carpentry and bricklayer qualifications, and a current SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate.
And to provide you with total peace of mind, AMBS Eco Solutions is fully recognised and covered, with public liability insurance up to a limit of £5,000,000.
“I just want to say a big thank you to you, Andy, and all your team, for the amazing extension on our house. You’ve looked after us and the project at every step of the way, and transformed our home into one we can really be proud of. We’ve already recommended you to three of our friends, and will continue to do so.”
