I grew up around building firms, as my dad worked for several in his time, and I always dreamed that one day, I’d have my own company. After serving my apprenticeship in Australia, the Philippines, the Canary Islands, Germany and France, I returned to the UK in 1987 and worked for other building and construction firms to develop my skills and knowledge. I now hold City & Guilds carpentry and bricklayer qualifications, and a current SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate, but the most useful part of my 30 years’ experience has been working on site day-in, day out, and getting to appreciate exactly what clients want from a builder. Since 1999, I’ve been running AMBS (Andrew Mills Building Services), and now the business has expanded to cover four ‘gangs’ – teams of bricklayers, joiners, electricians, plumbers, fitters, roofers, plasterers – all of whom are people I know and trust.
“Thank you, Andrew. Our loft conversion looks great, and it really has transformed our home. If you need anyone to recommend you, you can tell people to call us any time!”

My primary role in the business is as Project Manager, ensuring that the project stays on time and to budget, and solving any potential issues even before my clients are aware of them. Keeping you in touch with our progress, coordinating my teams and maintaining an exceptional level of quality control are vital components of my job, and I put my reputation on the line with every job. The buck stops with me, so if you ever have cause for concern, I’ll deal with it personally and promptly. We believe that traditional values such as punctuality, good manners and tidiness go a long way to ensuring that you have a positive experience.
